Hi, I’m Hattie
I’m a professional costume maker working primarily in theatre, having studied Costume with Textiles at the University of Huddersfield. My recent work includes working on costumes for House of the Dragon (Season 2), the 2024 London revival of Starlight Express, and many, MANY pantos!
I’m passionate about sharing my skills with others and love seeing the amazing things my students come up with. My aim for Thimble People is to grow into a vibrant makerspace, providing a welcoming and inclusive space for local creatives.
The Studio
If you know me, you know that my workroom is my happy place. I have spent a long time turning it into a cozy and inspiring space, filled with everything I need to create amazing things.
The workspace is all on ground level and has a wide access door with a small weather seal lip. Unfortunately, our toilet facilities are upstairs, and I recognise this makes the premises inaccessible to some people. If this is an issue for you, please get in touch to see if the class you’re interested in can be brought to you instead.
Please note that home visits are subject to a mileage charge. More information about the mileage charge can be found in the FAQs.
Why Thimble People?
Thimble People is named after the Mary Frances Sewing Book - Adventures among the Thimble People by Jane Eayre Fryer. In the book, Mary Frances is taught to sew by the Thimble People, magical sewing tools who come to life, while on holiday at her Grandmother’s house. The book also contains real sewing patterns for the reader to make.
Thimble People felt like the most appropriate name for what I do. I hope to help others find joy in sewing and textile crafts, and maybe have their own adventures among the Thimble People.
